Indivisibles,

This past January was one of the warmest on record in the United States (especially in the Northeast) and included over 150 reported tornadoes (mainly across the South).

Flooding in California earlier this year caused at least 20 deaths with untold damage and destruction throughout the area.

A winter storm once again knocked out power in Texas earlier this month as residents dealt with below-freezing temperatures.

The climate crisis and inadequate infrastructure continue to be two of the biggest challenges facing the American people today. Fortunately, we have a president who understands the importance of tackling these problems head-on.

In last week’s State of the Union Address, President Biden took time to highlight his administration’s achievements on climate and infrastructure through the historic Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). The IRA includes: money for reinforcing dams and reservoirs against natural disasters, billions to mitigate the impacts of hurricanes, tornadoes, and floods, and the largest investment in world history in combating climate change.

While Republicans are still trying to ban books and strip away rights from pregnant people, Democrats are addressing the problems affecting the entire country.

This is further evidenced by the current MAGA Republican scheme to use the debt ceiling to hold the economy hostage in an attempt to strip away funding for Social Security and Medicare -- widely popular programs that are critical for many Americans.

Our ongoing championing of progressive elected officials is critical to ensuring they continue fighting for the people rather than caving to corporate greed and self-interest like their conservative counterparts.

With that, here are your weekly to-dos:

 Your 3 weekly to-dos

  1. If your representative is a Democrat, call them and tell them we need them to hold firm against any cuts to Social Security and Medicare in the debt ceiling fight! At the State of the Union, Biden did the work of getting Republicans on record, on national television, denying that they would gut these vital programs. Let’s make sure our Democratic representatives continue to hold firm and fight against MAGA extremists holding the economy hostage. Republicans are in the hot seat; let’s remind our Democratic representatives to keep them there.
  2. Read the new 2023 Indivisible Guide (PDF). If you want tangible actions you can take to confront MAGA extremism, this is the place to start. Catch up on where we stand in the new year, explore our game plan for the current Congress, and find out how to get involved. Our wins over the last six years have been because we were coordinated, energized, and informed; let’s make sure we go into 2023 with that same foundation in place to fuel more wins.
  3. Do you live in a rural area? Click here to join our National Rural Program. We have resources and calls specifically for our rural Indivisibles where you can learn more about strategies and issues specific to Indivisibles living in rural areas. If you want an idea of what that looks like, check out our agenda and notes from previous meetings. Ready to join a meeting? RSVP for our February Monthly Rural Raucous Caucus Call next Wednesday, February 22 at 8pm ET/5pm PT.

P.S. We rely on your support to keep call pages up and running, fund ads to get the word out, and continue all the work we’re doing this year. If you’re able, click here to donate to help fund our work.

Indivisible Tohono attended Katie Hobbs’ inauguration ceremony in January, highlighting the need for tribal inclusion on federal and state level advocacy. In late January, they spent time organizing for recognition of the toll of the Federal Boarding School system.

When we ensure our representatives are supported, they have the chance to change the world -- whether that’s historic investments in climate, lowering prescription drug costs, or creating millions of jobs for Americans across the country. Let’s keep up that energy and continue building the movement that drives change.

In solidarity,

Indivisible Project is a locally-led, people-powered movement of thousands of local groups in red, blue, and purple states, and in urban, suburban, and rural areas. Our mission is to power and lift up a grassroots movement of local groups to defeat the Trump agenda, elect progressive leaders, and realize bold progressive policies.

Grassroots donations, not foundations or large gifts, are our single largest source of funding. That means we’re accountable to, and fueled by, Indivisibles on the ground. Chip in $7 to keep fueling our movement.
