These are just a handful of the members of Congress who have accepted
hundreds of thousands of dollars from the oil and gas industry.^1 They
were sent to Congress to represent the best interests of their
communities, but Big Oil has found its way into their hearts, minds, and
priorities.

‘break up with Big Oil’ and cut ties with the fossil fuel industry — once
and for all?

John, we’ve
seen the kind of influence that the oil lobby can have over Congress. Just
last year, politicians bought off by Big Oil sank the Build Back Better
agenda — legislation that would have represented a historic investment in
our fight against the climate crisis.

All the while bad actors like Senator Joe Manchin have done everything in
their power to create new fossil fuel infrastructure with a Dirty Deal
that would strengthen U.S. energy ties with Big Oil.

If we want to see tangible and impactful change, Congress has to end their
toxic relationship with Big Oil. Congress needs to stop accepting campaign
contributions from Big Oil, stop taking meetings with their lobbyists, and
support an immediate investigation into Exxon for knowingly misleading the
public about the impacts of climate change.
