John, today we honor the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. -- as we reflect upon all the progress he inspired, we also look ahead to the work that remains to truly achieve his vision.
The beautiful, singular legacy of Dr. King is of justice, equality, freedom, love, and service to others. I think a lot about this compelling quote of his: "Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'"
There is no greater way to honor Dr. King than by serving others, today and every day. We must help those who still face societal barriers. And we must strive to remove those barriers and create a more just society -- one of true racial, gender, and economic equality.
Dr. King understood that progress is achieved by individuals working together and becoming a movement greater than themselves. Only from community can we move past chaos and truly realize our shared humanity.
I will continue to fight for progress - for justice, equality, freedom - and work to strengthen the bonds between us as we move towards a brighter future. I thank Dr. King for his courage, conviction, and moral fortitude.
I thank you all for being on this journey with me to ensure Dr. King's words become truth: "The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice." This is what we are doing for others!
