Team,
During last week's State of the Union address, President Biden called out some Republicans for proposing cuts to Social Security and Medicare. A few of my Republican colleagues decided to heckle the President in the middle of his speech, shouting "No!" and calling him a liar.
Let's set the record straight. Numerous Republican politicians have proposed gutting Social Security and Medicare for years.
Senator Rick Scott recently wrote a plan calling for all federal programs, including Social Security and Medicare, to "sunset" every five years. Senator Mike Lee said, "It will be my objective to phase out Social Security, to pull it up by the roots and get rid of it." The Republican Study Committee, which includes 150 members of Congress, proposed raising the eligibility ages for both programs.
And just last year, right here in New Hampshire, I defeated a Republican who promised to write the bill to privatize Social Security!
Social Security and Medicare are a foundational part of the American bargain that many Americans – including many Granite Staters – depend on. As long as I'm in Congress, I'll defend these critical programs.
If left unchecked too many Republicans will continue to attack these crucial programs, team.
I'll always work to defend and strengthen Social Security and Medicare. But I need your help. Will you chip in $5, $10, or whatever you can to help me fend off their attacks?
Thank you,
Chris
