Alex was born to working-class parents, came out as gay at 16, and was the first in his family to attend college.
Eight years ago, at 22, he was elected as the youngest and first openly gay mayor of his hometown, Holyoke, just six months after graduating from Brown University.
Alex will be a part of the new generation of progressive leaders who understand the magnitude of the climate crisis and believe that everyone deserves quality healthcare and affordable housing.
