Love of Country, Love of
Constitution
By: G. Lamar Wilkie, USN (Ret.)
I am on a personal crusade to change the song “Baby, It’s Cold
Outside” from a Christmas song to a Valentine’s Day song. First, the
song has absolutely nothing in it about any holiday; second,
mid-February is when it’s cold outside! That’s the time of year I
would be strongly encouraging my love to stay warm indoors and
snuggle.
While Valentine’s Day is the traditional day of lovers, it
should actually be the icing on the cake, since we love our sweeties
year-round. Equally, we love America all year long but there are
occasions when we more fully express that love. Independence Day is
one of those occasions.
Since this is the month of love, however, there’s no need to wait
until July to talk about love of our country: a country that has been
slipping away from us for a century. It’s not fully gone, though...
and with enough people understanding what’s at stake, there’s hope
yet for the country we love.
The greatest expressions of lovers for each other are done in
private. However, the greatest expressions of our love for this great
country are done so publicly and boldly. Often, this expression comes
in the form of correcting and educating those who parrot the words and
terms that have been inserted into our every-day vernacular - by the
very people and forces determined to destroy our American sovereignty
and the Constitution’s relevance in our lives. Here are a few
examples:
When someone refers to America as a “democracy”, we should feel an
obligation to respectfully correct them. America is not now, nor has
it ever been, a democracy! We are a Constitutional
Republic!
In a democracy, the majority rules and there are no minority
rights: only privileges granted by the majority. In our Republic, the
rights of everyone, including those in the minority, are protected
under the rule of law. Our government derives its just powers from the
consent of the governed, and that includes all its citizens.
Here's a quote from Veterans in Defense of Liberty --"The very word
Democracy is repugnant to those born free in a Constitutional Republic
and understand the differences."
The second example happens during the
summer. I cringe when I hear people wishing me a happy 4th of July.
That’s my cue to give them something to think about.
Do we wish people a Merry December 25th? Or, a week later, do
we wish them Happy January 1st? I’m pretty sure our sweethearts would
be confused if we wished them Happy February 14th. How is it, then,
that we’ve been conditioned to refer to our nation’s birthday only by
its date?
Is it because we’re being influenced not to consider that our
patriot forebears, in a courageous act which some considered to be
high treason, threw off the oppression of a tyrannical government and
declared independence from it? The significance of the event is more
important than the date of the event! I then wish them a wonderful
Independence Day.
Another example is so many people stare at
screens, believing the talking heads who make up “rights” not found in
the Constitution like jobs, health care, housing, food, etc. I
encourage people to READ THE CONSTITUTION and understand our system of
government... and compare how it’s supposed to work with the mess we
have now (like Congress debating and passing 12 separate bills to fund
the government vs. passing a 4000+ page omnibus bill written in secret
with little open debate).
Special emphasis should be placed on the Tenth Amendment, and how
every function of government, outside the eighteen specific powers
granted it, is a function seized from the states and the people with
no authority to do so.
Finally, we must let people know that they
aren’t obligated to continue voting for, and supporting,
the Republicrat Uniparty. The more Americans
who leave the big-money globalist system perpetuated by
the D.C. deep state, and the fewer votes Ds and Rs
receive in elections compared to third-party candidates,
the more nervous and frantic our elected
officials will become. They may see the light and begin
representing their constituents... instead of
deep-pocketed K Street lobbyists.
The Constitution Party has not wavered in its
core principles of returning the federal government
to its eighteen limited powers and restoring
all other powers back to the states and the people.
We need people to run as candidates under the banner of
the Constitution Party everywhere the party
has ballot access. We need to financially support the
party so it can grow and thrive: we need more staff
to increase ballot access, we need an
advertising budget, and we need operating expenses at the
national and state levels. WE NEED YOU!
While this is a season of love (plus –baby, it’s
cold outside!), it’s simply a reaffirmation of love that
endures all the time. This is also a good time
to reaffirm the love we feel for America...
all the time. Reread the Constitution, front to
back; respectfully correct those with the
wrong impression of America; support and promote
your Constitution Party. -GLW
