John,
On this day in 2021, every news outlet was sharing the same headline:
Former President Donald Trump acquitted in 2nd impeachment trial
Donald Trump is the only U.S. president to be impeached twice.
Exactly one month and a week after insurrectionists incited a riot at the Capitol on January 6th, 2021, the Senate acquitted former President Donald Trump for his role in inciting the deadly event.
There’s no question that the outcome of Donald Trump’s impeachment trial was disappointing. 43 senators decided to look past the evidence against him--the clear evidence that he incited an attack on our country and our democracy.
Since then, CREW has taken action at every turn to hold Trump accountable for his criminal actions and to ensure that under the 14th Amendment, we stop him from serving as president again.
The risk of Trump holding office again is not one this country can afford. He thinks the law doesn't apply to him, and we need to make sure he learns that he’s not above the law.
If we’re going to hold Trump to account for his dozens of crimes, that’s going to take a lot of hard work – and a lot of money. Here at CREW, we’re committed to fighting, but we need your help. Please make a donation to support our work right now →
When we first called for President Trump to be impeached again, it was because of his phone call with the Georgia Secretary of State in which he attempted to get him to overturn the state’s presidential election results.
And just a few days later, he incited a violent insurrection in an attempt to hinder Congress’s final counting of the 2020 electoral college votes.
Section 3 of the 14th Amendment bars anyone who engaged in insurrection against the Constitution they swore to defend from holding office.
So our message to Donald Trump is clear: if you seek office despite being disqualified under the Constitution for engaging in insurrection, we and others loyal to the Constitution will defend it.
We need your help to do it John. Make a donation to CREW today and help us hold Trump accountable to the law →
Thank you,
Noah Bookbinder
