John, how does District of Columbia stack up against the rest when it comes to gun safety? Check out our new Gun Law Rankings to see the state of gun safety in District of Columbia and the laws we can pass to help save lives.
We compared gun policy in all 50 states, scoring each on the strength of its gun laws and comparing it with its rate of gun violence. Once again, our findings have made clear that gun laws work. States with strong laws see less gun violence.
Passing these laws is a core part of our strategy to stop the death and destruction caused by the gun industry's dangerous agenda. For far too long, it's been able to flood our communities with guns and get away with it. Every year, the gun industry rakes in approximately $9 billion, while gun violence kills more than 43,000 people in America. It's a killer business, and we're paying for it with our lives.
One of the main reasons why the gun industry has been able to get away with this reckless carnage is weak gun laws. In 14 states, elected lawmakers have failed to put basic protections into place, choosing to listen to the gun industry instead of their constituents. And the numbers tell a story: Those states have nearly three times as many gun deaths as the eight national gun safety leaders.
As we work to save lives in our communities, make sure you know what's at stake. Get ready to take action: See where your state stacks up on gun safety and gun violence.
Thank you for being a part of this movement. Together, we can end this crisis.
