When people think of Congress, they generally think of debate and votes on the House floor. While that is very important, there is another essential component of Congress, which is the committee process. Through the work of committees, Congress is able to hold the administration accountable, discuss issues, find solutions, and develop bills through the hearings process. Republicans have been clear in our commitment to a transparent, more accountable government, which means passing legislation the right way – through the committee process. |
I am very excited about the committee assignments I have earned. On the Agriculture Committee, I will help craft a strong, five-year Farm Bill reauthorization. I have been selected as the Chairman of the Nutrition, Foreign Agriculture, and Horticulture Subcommittee. I will also serve on the General Farm Commodities, Risk Management, and Credit Subcommittees of the Agriculture Committee. As one of the few active farmers in Congress, I am committed to making sure Minnesota has a strong voice on the Agriculture Committee during the Farm Bill process. |
I always say food security is national security, so my second committee ties in perfectly, that is the House Armed Services Committee. This important committee oversees our national defense and military forces. I am also proud to be serving on the Readiness Subcommittee and the Military Personnel Subcommittee. Recent provocations by China have clearly demonstrated that we must never let our guard down. I understand that serving on this committee is a major responsibility and I am honored to work for you there. I am ready to really get to work on these committees and am grateful to serve as your voice in Congress. |
