Message from the President

In honor of Black History Month, the New Jersey Young Democrats is proud to recognize and celebrate the achievements of African Americans and the central role of Black people in U.S. history. Thank you to our African American leaders, elected officials, members, and supporters for everything that you do.

Black history is American history. As we look forward to celebrating all month long, we have a larger commitment to recognize and uplift the achievements of Black people all year long while advancing progress on Black issues. As the first African American woman president of the New Jersey Young Democrats, I am proud of how far we've come and will continue to ensure that we prioritize racial equity, DEIB, and social justice in our work.

- President Fatima Heyward

February Young Dem of the Month

Congratulations to our February Young Dem of the Month, Jordan Stewart! Jordan is a motivated young professional with experience in government, policy, and community outreach. He serves as the Executive Assistant for the New Jersey Young Democrats and is the Deputy Chief of Staff to Assemblywoman Linda S. Carter in New Jersey’s 22nd Legislative District.

Growing up, splitting time between Hillside and Elizabeth, New Jersey, Jordan is the son of two parents who are educators. He is also an alumnus of Montclair State University. Jordan graduated with a degree in Political Science, played football, and served as the Vice President of the Brotherhood La Hermandad.

In 2022, Jordan served as the assistant to Chairman Thomas Sullivan on the Bergen County Board of Commissioners. He is the founder of Soul Civics, a nonprofit organization that educates students on the importance of civic engagement. He is passionate about educating and is determined to create a safe space for marginalized students. Congrats again, Jordan! We're very proud of you and grateful to have you on the NJYD team.
