Governor Ron DeSantis
Highlights Plan to Provide Tax Relief for Florida Families
During a
visit to Ocala on February 8, Governor Ron DeSantis shared details of
the Family-Focused Tax Relief package – the largest tax relief
proposal in Florida history – to save Florida families a historic $2
billion during the 2023-2024 fiscal year.
He was
joined by Senate President Kathleen Passidomo and House Speaker Paul
Renner who expressed their intent to pass the tax relief plan, which
is a part of the Governor’s Framework for Freedom Budget proposal
announced last week. The average Florida family could save up to
$1,000 a year under this plan.
"Inflation continues to burden Florida families
and we must fight back against rising costs by cutting the sales tax
on necessary items. We are able to provide this record $2 billion in
tax relief because of our smart fiscal policies and strong reserves.
It is important that we pass those savings on to Florida families so
they can keep more of their hard-earned money in their own
pockets.”
- Governor Ron
DeSantis, February 8, 2023
|
"While under the
leadership of Governor DeSantis Florida’s economy is booming, the pain
of inflation due to the disastrous economic policies on the national
level is very real for many Florida families. Florida cannot
independently fix all of the problems created by the federal
government, but we can and we will do our part to support Florida
families by passing historic, broad-based tax cuts that help
Floridians keep more of their hard-earned money.”
- Senate President
Kathleen Passidomo, February 8, 2023

___
“Hard-working Floridians are tired of scraping
by, having to do more with less because Washington politicians refuse
to cut wasteful spending or curb inflationary policies. Floridians can
count on Governor DeSantis and their state legislators to balance our
budget and strategically build up reserves. I look forward to working
with the Governor, Senate President Passidomo, and our colleagues in
the House and Senate to deliver meaningful tax relief for families
when they need it most.”
- House Speaker
Paul Renner, February 8, 2023

The tax
relief plan includes a one year sales tax exemption on children’s
items like books and toys; a permanent sales tax exemption on baby and
toddler necessities like clothing, cribs, and strollers; and an
expansion of the annual Back to School tax holiday.

Governor Ron DeSantis Hosts
Roundtable Discussion on Legacy Media Defamation Practices
Governor
Ron DeSantis held a roundtable discussion on Tuesday in Hialeah
Gardens to discuss the damaging impacts of defamation from the legacy
media as it becomes a more prevalent issue in the lives of everyday
citizens. The panel included victims of media defamation, legal
experts, and a member of the media who has witnessed the defamatory
practices of his colleagues.
“We’ve
seen over the last generation legacy media outlets increasingly
divorce themselves from the truth and instead try to elevate preferred
narratives and partisan activism over reporting the facts,”
said Governor Ron DeSantis. “When the media attacks me, I have a
platform to fight back. When they attack everyday citizens, these
individuals don’t have the adequate recourses to fight back. In
Florida, we want to stand up for the little guy against these massive
media conglomerates.”
- Governor Ron
DeSantis, February 7, 2023
|
The
Governor also called upon the legislature to take action during the
upcoming Legislative Session to protect Floridians from the
life-altering ramifications that defamation from the media can cause
for a person who does not have the means or the platform to defend
themself. Current law does not provide adequate protection for
everyday Floridians to protect themselves from defamatory or libelous
speech by news organizations.

Republican Party of
Florida’s Response to President Biden’s State of the Union
Address
“Florida is the
nation’s safeguard from Biden’s incompetence and weakness. In fact,
every time Joe Biden speaks in public, Florida’s population
grows.”
RPOF Statement on
Joe Biden’s Visit to Tampa
“If anyone needed a reminder as to why counties
like Hillsborough and Pinellas flipped for
Governor DeSantis, they have one today with Biden’s visit to Tampa.
Biden and Democrats consistently put special interests over educators
and students, inflationary spending over the best interest of American
families, and open borders over American security.”
- The
federal government refusing to act on Florida’s
Prescription Drug Importation proposalis just another example of
the Biden Administration trying to hold Florida
back.
- Florida
submitted its landmark Canadian Drug Importation Program to the
federal government. This program could save Floridians $150 million
annually, yet the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has refused
to act on this proposal.
- In
response to federal government inaction, Florida is finding
innovative ways to drive transparency and accountability among
health care services.
-
Joe
Biden has continuously attacked Governor DeSantis’ efforts to ensure
that Florida kids are being educated in schools, not
indoctrinated.
- Joe
Biden took
issuewith Florida’s common sense Parental Rights in Education
legislation, which ensures that young children are being taught
reading, writing, and arithmetic in schools, not sex and gender
theory.
-
The
contrast couldn’t be clearer: Governor DeSantis empowers educators;
Joe Biden empowers special interests:
-
Florida serves as the nation’s safeguard from
federal government overreach and incompetence:
- When Joe
Biden tried to impose a job-killing vaccine mandate, Governor
DeSantis stood
in his way.
- Governor
DeSantis urged
Democrats and Biden to be more ambitious in opening
schools.
- After the
Biden Administration issued unscientific and inconsistent
recommendations that school-aged children wear masks, Governor
DeSantis protectedparents’
freedom to choose.
- While Joe
Biden refuses
to secure the border,Governor DeSantis has taken
action to protect Floridians from the dangerous impacts of the
Biden Border Crisis.
- The
Florida Disaster Fund has
stepped inwhere FEMA denied funds for hurricane victims.
- Amid
the worst
inflation in four decades,Governor DeSantis has proposed
historic tax relief via the Framework for Freedom budget to
permanently end sales tax on essential household and children’s
items.
