Dear friend,
I had the honor of spending this long weekend travelling across Mississippi and celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Dr. King committed his life to faith, service, and justice for all, fighting peacefully for a future in which our children and grandchildren could live equally, free from the prejudice and oppression of our past.
Here in Mississippi and across the United States, we still have a great deal of work to do to fully achieve Dr. King’s dream. But it’s weekends like this one that remind me of how far we’ve come and how strong we are when we unite as a community.
On Saturday, we kicked off the weekend with an MLK march in Jackson. Despite the rain, we happily marched on.

On Sunday, I spent the morning in Hattiesburg as a guest of West Point Missionary Baptist Church and Ebenezer Baptist Church.

Later that day, I was thankful to the people of the MS Gulf Coast who welcomed me to Pascagoula for their MLK celebration program.

This morning, I joined hundreds in Grenada for their annual prayer breakfast in honor of Dr. King. I was honored to be the keynote speaker discussing how we can best honor Dr. King’s legacy not just through our words but through our actions.

Overall, it was a wonderful weekend spent with Mississippians all over the state, and I am so looking forward to taking more time to meet and listen to the hopes, needs, and dreams of our communities.
Together I know that here in Mississippi, through hard work and unity, we can continue to come closer and closer to making Dr. King’s dream a reality for every Mississippian and American.
Thank you,
Mike
