John,

Martin Luther King Jr. once said “the problems of racial injustice and economic injustice cannot be solved without a radical redistribution of political and economic power.”

On this day dedicated to his legacy, we want to connect with this idea that is central to our campaign. As a society, we still have not won the battle against racial and economic injustice — which is why we are fighting harder than ever today. We must reflect on Dr. King’s life and work, and harness his strength to continue on in this battle.

My mother, an immigrant from Trinidad, was a single parent working to support me and my brother as we grew up. We struggled to pay the bills and were faced with constant monetary stress. I saw firsthand how hard it was to care for a family when the system is against you. My commitment to fighting against economic injustice aimed at families just like mine came in part from bearing witness to what she did — what she had to go through — to support us.

That’s why I am going all out every day, working to represent you in Congress and lead the fight for financial stability, stable housing, racial justice and public safety for everyone.

We honor Dr. King by continuing to fight for the ideals that he believed in and was killed for. I am running to represent this district so we can bring this fight for equality to Washington — and win the battle he so fiercely fought.

We can win this,

Morgan Harper
