We kicked off our work in the Ways and Means Committee by holding a field hearing in West Virginia. We were able to hear directly from hardworking Americans about an array of issues from how inflation is hurting businesses to how the opioid epidemic is affecting the workforce. In our first House Administration Committee hearing, I had the opportunity to question the Architect of the Capitol on his telework policies. It is mind boggling that we still have federal employees being paid taxpayer dollars to not go into work every day. Be sure to click here or on the image below to watch our dialogue. 

Like many of you, I watched President Biden's State of the Union Address on Tuesday. While there was national hope for healing and unity coming out of the pandemic, President Biden once again proved on Tuesday that he is more interested in dividing our parties and avoiding the truth. Had a great meeting with the North Carolina Fraternal Order of Police this week. Did you know 62 officers were shot and killed in the line of duty last year? That’s up 32% from 2020. We must do more to protect our brave officers and get them the resources they need.

Enjoyed meeting with Wayne Community College, Lenoir Community College, and Beaufort Community College this week. We’re working to ensure the next generation of North Carolinians are set up for success.

After 30 years in law enforcement and nearly 22 years of service with the Kitty Hawk Police Department, Chief Joel Johnson retired last week. Team Murphy was honored to attend his retirement ceremony. Happy retirement, Chief Johnson!
