A big week at Breach Collective

Hey Friends,

We have two big victories to share! This past week we ratified our union contract and celebrated Eugene City Council’s passage of an ordinance that phases out gas in new residential construction.

Union Strong

Breach’s staff (affiliated with Communications Workers of America (CWA) Local 7901) and board are proud to announce our first collective bargaining agreement – one of the most progressive union contracts in the country! The final contract is one we are all wildly proud of, and includes:

  • 32-hour full-time work week
  • Unlimited sick days
  • 6 months family leave
  • Wage parity provisions
  • 50 vacation days per year (15 of which are required) – recognizing that time off and recuperation is essential to maintaining a healthy, well-functioning workplace

Our team believes that the labor movement is essential to driving solutions to the climate crisis that actually benefit working class people and other marginalized communities. This year, in partnership with CWA, we will launch an online hub with organizing tools and resources for climate and environmental nonprofits throughout the United States. If you want to unionize your nonprofit or find yourself not knowing where to start, reach out to us at [email protected]. We can support you and answer any questions you have.

Electrification in Eugene

On Monday, after an historic campaign championed by the Fossil Free Eugene coalition (of which Breach is a core member), the Eugene City Council voted 5-3 to phase out gas infrastructure in new low-rise residential buildings. Eugene is the first local government in Oregon to pass such an ordinance, joining over 90 local governments nationally. This decision is a win for the climate and for the public health of Eugene residents, and wouldn’t have been possible without determined advocacy by Breach and other members of the Fossil Free Eugene coalition to highlight the benefits of building electrification and push back against gas industry misinformation

Save the Date!
