Hello John,

As the war in Ukraine shows no end in sight, people of Ukraine confront not only the destruction of country and life, but a bitterly cold winter.  In Ukraine and across the region, humanitarian resources for the civilian population are stretched thin, and LGBTIQ people are at risk of being left behind.  You can help LGBTIQ people affected by the war to access warm, safe housing and other life-saving humanitarian aid by donating to Outright’s Ukraine LGBTIQ Emergency Fund

Thanks to the Dropbox Foundation and an Anonymous donor, the first $125,000 in donations during February will be matched 1:1.  Help Outright reach our goal of sending $250,000 in emergency support to LGBTIQ people affected by the war in Ukraine.

Donations to the Fund strengthen LGBTIQ-led humanitarian relief efforts to fight the harsh cold, including the distribution of warm meals, electrical batteries, emergency generators, candles, flashlights, mattresses, pillows, blankets, and linens.

With so many rendered homeless because of the violence, LGBTIQ people need our help this winter more than ever.  As Edward explains from a shelter operated by Kyiv Pride:

“Now we are sitting in lit and warm place, but it can change any moment. Because Russians are targeting our energy system, and they want to freeze us to death. Because they can't do anything in the warfare. They're trying to kill civilians. So, we definitely need generators....anything that can help us survive and like starting from these big things to warm clothes and like blankets and so on. So, it's very important and people who live in the shelter, they also need like clothing because they come from, for example, occupied territories or from Kharkiv for from places in the east which are being heavily bombed. I think that Ukrainians are very brave, and we help each other. But definitely the resources inside the country are poor because the biggest efforts go to the army, and everyone gives all they have to the army. So, if you can help us with all those warming things, that would be great.”

As Edward emphasizes, the situation in Ukraine this winter is dire.  It is likely to worsen as Russia carries on with attacks on Ukraine’s infrastructure.  Outright will continue to do everything in our power to mobilize our resources and assist LGBTIQ Ukrainians during this challenging time.  But we cannot succeed without your support.

Regardless of size, your generous contribution will supply critical food and medicine, linens, flashlights, electricity, heat, and shelter to people like Edward and his organization, Kyiv Pride.

Thank you for your generosity of heart, and for joining us in our mission.
