"Federal bill offers critical BWCA protection from mining [[link removed]] ": Star Tribune Editorial Board, January 17, 2020.

"Northern Minnesota has one of the world’s most extreme climates, and the risk of a mistake, even with modern technology, that could permanently pollute the BWCA is simply too great to allow one mine, much less multiple mines, to operate near the wilderness."[1]
Last week, Representative Betty McCollum introduced H.R. 5598, legislation that will protect the Boundary Waters and Voyageurs National Park from sulfide-ore copper mining. The Star Tribune editorialized in strong favor of H.R. 5598 and urged Minnesota Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith to introduce this legislation in the U.S. Senate.

You can help get this bill passed.

Please take a minute to call Minnesota Senators Tina Smith and Amy Klobuchar to urge them to introduce Betty’s bill in the Senate. A sample script is below. We need people from across America to raise their voices now to urge Senators Smith and Klobuchar to fight to protect the Boundary Waters:

Call Senator Tina Smith’s office at: 202-224-5641

Sample Script:
Hi, my name is ___ and I’m from [city] and [state]. I am calling today to ask that you support Representative McCollum’s bill, H.R. 5598, to protect the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and Voyageurs National Park from sulfide-ore mining by introducing the same bill in the Senate. We need Senator Smith to stand up and protect the Boundary Waters forever.
After you complete Senator Smith’s office, please call Senator Klobuchar with the same message: 202-224-3244

Thank you for your advocacy, we cannot Save the Boundary Waters without your help.
