I’m reaching out because we’re nearly halfway through the first quarter of my re-election campaign. It’s one of the most important tests of our entire campaign, and our fundraising is a bit behind where I want it to be.

At the end of the quarter, we will have our first official FEC deadline, and all eyes will be on us in that moment to look for vulnerabilities. Any potential Republican opponents are going to look at this number to weigh whether or not they want to challenge me.

The media will want to see if our people-powered movement is still committed to this fight after we posted major progressive victories on gun safety, climate action, and more. And the far-right super PACs and the gun lobby are going to start deciding how much they are willing to spend to try to defeat me.

The first deadline of any re-election sets the tone for the rest of the campaign.

So this matters a ton, and it is a challenge I cannot take on alone. We got off to a slow start this quarter, so we’re behind our goal. It’s nothing to panic about, but I do need a lot of people to step up today to start filling in the gap. What do you say?

I know it may sound strange to think about how many decisions are happening so far out from Election Day, but that’s the reality.

It’s part of the reason these Senate races, even in a state like Connecticut, take significant resources. But your support will allow us to make important early investments and decisions that will lay the groundwork for victory up and down the ballot in 2024.
