FL-27 Newsletter Vol. 118, Issue #6 Dear Friends/Amigos, Thank you for allowing me to bring you this brief weekly update. It is an honor representing you and your family in Washington, D.C! While the Biden Administration continues to willfully ignore the reality the American people face on a daily basis: record inflation, high food and energy prices, increased cost of goods and services, we South Floridians, understand the power of living in a free society. This is why, this week, I voted to end pandemic-era travel restrictions and continued championing freedom and liberty-loving policies on your behalf. As always, I invite you to connect with me on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, to get the latest from Washington and from across our district. Sincerely/Atentamente, Maria Elvira Salazar U.S. Representative (FL-27) PRESIDENT BIDEN - STATE OF THE UNION This week, President Biden address Congress in his State of the Union Address. The fact is, since assuming office, President Biden and his policies have wreaked havoc on our economy, while crime and illegal immigration continue to be a challenge nationwide. As your Congresswoman, know I am fighting to protect your interests against federal overreach and unelected bureaucrats of Washington. ENDING COVID-19 ERA POLICIES & HELPING MIAMI'S TOURISM INDUSTRY I was proud to co-sponsor H.R. 185, a bill that removed all COVID-19 vaccination mandates for international flights coming to the United States. The bill passed the House of Representatives with a 227-201 vote. President Biden recognized it himself: the COVID-19 pandemic is over. Given our community is heavily impacted by tourism dollars, if enacted, this bill will allow a greater number of visitors to come to our region, helping both our economy and small businesses flourish even stronger. THE NICARAGUAN SOCIALIST REGIME FREED 222 POLITICAL PRISONERS On Thursday, 222 political prisoners that were being held in the nation's prisons or under house arrest by the Ortega regime in Nicaragua were released. Post release, the regime announced they would also strip them of their Nicaraguan citizenship and property. While I celebrate the safe arrival of these freedom fighters on American soil, our work to ensure that freedom and democracy reign in the region is far from over. As the Chairwoman of the Western Hemisphere Subcommittee on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, I promise to be dictators and tyrants worst nightmare. Read our full press release on this topic here.
