John,
Today I walked in the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. march in downtown Atlanta. Each year we make our way up Peachtree Street and down Auburn Avenue to the King Center in the historic Sweet Auburn neighborhood - [link removed]
Thousands walk hand in hand, shoulder to shoulder with the vision in our mind's eye of a more just America for ALL.
Together, we represent hundreds of social and economic and environmental justice groups that work every day across Georgia to fulfill the vision of a future where bigotry, hatred, and prejudice has no place in our society. Where narrow mindedness and racism are distant memories of a bygone era, never to return to our golden shores again.
I am committed to the Kingian philosophy. To his belief that in the wealthiest nation in the history of the world no one should live in poverty. That wars of choice should be avoided at all costs. And that our personal and societal commitment to non-violence should be paramount in how we treat each other. Especially those we might deem to be different than us.
I've studied and read so much of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's philosophy on life and human nature, and I always come back to this message that he seemed to interweave in every speech. I think that the dream is actually that simple. - [link removed]
