John,

This is an email to ask you to do two things:

  1. Watch a video that our video team made that explains why our movement is throwing down for Bernie Sanders in 2020.

  2. Donate to support our work to elect Bernie and clear the way for his Green New Deal agenda by challenging politicians across the country.

But first I want to explain a bit more on why this endorsement, and this video, means so much to me.

Every day I see my friends struggle with fear. Fear of the climate crisis. Fear of crushing debt. Fear of bills at the end of the month. The challenges seem insurmountable to face alone - so many young people want to give up. But we have power together - and that’s what can create hope.

The Green New Deal has given so many of us hope for a future of equality and meaningful work. Young people have been inspired to organize their communities, go on strike from work and school, and knock on doors all across the country.

Sunrise is waging militant optimism: a radical belief in everyday people working together to transform society. I see that same militant optimism in Bernie Sanders, who has worked relentlessly to make what seemed impossible possible for his entire life. And he believes in us.

In this video, I wanted to reach out to people my age who are feeling hopeless and directionless. In 2020, we have a chance to not only elect politicians who work for us, but to clear the way for their agenda by occupying offices and taking to the streets.

I’m excited to share it with you. Click here to watch now, and then chip in to Sunrise’s work to elect Bernie Sanders and Green New Deal champions nationwide.

Since today is Martin Luther King Day, I want to share one reflection from his work that means a lot to me.

Looking back, it may seem like he was always bound for victory, that Jim Crow was doomed to crumble. He never believed it. In his words: “Change does not roll in on the wheels of inevitability, but comes through continuous struggle.”

I’m sure he and his peers worked through the same questions we’re facing now. They found a way forward, and those are the footsteps we’re following, and we’re going to follow them to victory.

The Green New Deal will be a decade of policy written by us. I know you can feel how deeply your friends and family need transformational change. Are you willing to fight for them? Are you willing to fight for someone you don’t know? Are you ready to join this political revolution?

Alex
