John,
For years, DFA members have pushed for legislation that will keep members of Congress from using their privileged status to profit off trading individual stocks.
In fact, when news broke that Senator Kelly Loeffler bought stock in a teleworking company, and Senator Richard Burr sold his stocks of hotel chains while telling his wealthy contributors to prepare for the worst, we immediately called out their blatant corruption and worked to bring it to an end.
Now our campaign is finally gaining traction.
Senator Jon Ossoff has introduced a bill, the Ban Congressional Stock Trading Act, that would require legislators, their spouses, and dependent children to place their stock portfolios into blind trusts.
If passed, the legislation would not allow lawmakers to use insider information to trade stocks and make money.
But here's the thing: We aren't going to win this fight by sitting back and counting on politicians in Washington, D.C. to act on their own accord. It's going to take a true grassroots movement to put enough pressure on elected officials to make this ban a reality.
Let's show Congress that we're done waiting -- and we're ready to stop blatant insider trading. Help DFA capitalize on the momentum by telling Congress to pass legislation that bans them from buying and selling individual stocks.
Momentum for banning Members of Congress and their families from trading individual stocks has been growing for years, but up until now the establishment of both parties has refused to take the idea seriously.
After tons of pressure, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi endorsed a plan to ban members of Congress from trading stocks and even Senator’s Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley have expressed their support.
The fact that even Republicans feel enough pressure to come out in support of it is a testament to the power of our organizing. But let’s be honest, words aren’t enough.
To make sure that insider politicians don’t offer up a watered-down ban on trading stocks, we must show that there is widespread support for Congress to be bold and use their power to actually stop this corrupt practice. Add your name now.
Thank you for taking action. Together we will keep politicians from enriching themselves at the expense of everyone else.
