Today is what the Alliance is all about, John.
Since 6 AM, gun violence prevention advocates from all across Washington state lined up outside the Senate Building in Olympia preparing for the first gun violence prevention hearing of the 2020 legislative session. This 10 AM hearing is the culmination of months of effort by the whole Alliance team and our partners to make sure that our legislators pass commonsense gun safety bills this year.
The Alliance recruited hundreds of volunteers to show up big and we supported more than a dozen testifiers -- including survivors, experts, and law enforcement -- as they prepared to give remarks to legislators on SB 6077. The bill would limit the capacity of firearm magazines to 10 rounds. It’s the first policy to be heard from our ambitious legislative agenda. See:

But we’re not the only ones who showed up. Our opponents came out in full force last week and this morning arguing AGAINST commonsense gun laws. They know that we’ve got momentum on our side and that we will do whatever it takes to pass this lifesaving bill. If today is any indication, it’s going to be a contentious session.
We’re about to head over to the Governor’s office for a press conference on today’s efforts and all that we’ve got planned for this session. You can tune in and watch on Facebook starting at 3:45 pm ET/12:45 pm PT or you can watch the recording later:

We’re so grateful to all of our supporters who joined us today and for those that are cheering us on from afar. Tomorrow, we’ll be doing it all again as we fight to pass policies on ammunition, restoring local authority, and the deadly intersection of alcohol and firearms.
More updates soon,
Dylan
PS - I can’t overstate the resources it takes to pull off a day like today. Please consider chipping in whatever you can to help fuel this fight:
