Ok. Now that we’ve got your attention, you’ve probably heard about chatbots by now. If you haven’t, here’s a quick summary:
Chatbots are a language model tool that gathers data to respond to your prompts. Anything from your many questions on quantum physics to writing an email (like the one below!) is fair game.
What does this have to do with disinformation?
Well, while this tool is great at generating sophisticated responses, its accuracy may sometimes be unreliable. And in an online environment where dis- and misinformation are rampant, language tools like chatbots/AI could wind up legitimizing false information.
We don’t know what role AI will play in daily life yet. But it’s worth being prepared by taking action against dis- and misinformation NOW.
