A devastating earthquake has hit Turkey and Syria, with thousands and thousands of people suffering in the aftermath.
I want to send my deepest heartfelt condolences to the people of Turkey, the people of Syria, and the global Turkish and Syrian community. I want to send you so much strength and love as search and rescue teams, aid workers, and volunteers from countries around the world are doing their best to mitigate the worst of this disaster, through terrible winter weather and difficult conditions.
I also wanted to send deepest condolences and love to the Muslim community in my district and all over the world. I know this is deeply hurtful to the entire community globally.
I lost someone that I knew personally — his name is Burak, and he and his children were tragically killed. He was a big supporter of mine from when we first ran for office and I want to just wish him, his children, and his family as much love as possible.
