Gov. Justice to hold Tax Reform Roundtable with Mr. Grover Norquist and Mr. Stephen Moore

On Monday, Feb. 13, Gov. Jim Justice will host a roundtable event with Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform, and Mr. Stephen Moore, distinguished fellow in economics at The Heritage Foundation. Both gentlemen are some of the nation's leading experts on tax policy.

During the roundtable, Gov. Justice and distinguished guests will engage with a panel of hardworking West Virginians on the issue of tax reform. Mr. Norquist and Mr. Moore will also provide their thoughts on tax reform that will benefit West Virginia.

Gov. Justice announces winners of 2023 DNR lifetime license giveaway winners

Gov. Justice and the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources earlier this week announced the winners of the state’s fourth annual Lifetime Hunting and Fishing License Giveaway.

The giveaway was open to residents and non-residents who purchased an annual 2023 hunting, trapping or fishing license in December. Over 21,000 people entered into the drawing.

The resident grand prize is a combination hunting, trapping, and fishing lifetime license and the non-resident grand prize is two Pipestem Resort State Park zipline tour tickets with a three-night lodge stay.

Other prizes include $200 West Virginia State Parks gift cards, two-night cabin stays at West Virginia State Parks and gift bags with exclusive merchandise.

Gov. Justice says WVNG's 35th Civil Support Team responds to train derailment in Ohio

Gov. Justice announced earlier this week, members of the West Virginia National Guard’s 35th Civil Support Team assisted with a train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio that involved hazardous materials and impacted local waterways. Although the incident occured in Ohio, West Virginia state agencies immediately responded. Along with the WVNG, the DEP, Emergency Management Division, and DHHR offered support.

The Weirton Public Service District detected chemicals at their intake which they believe was from this train derailment, but the water source was quickly switched to an alternate supply out of an abundance of caution.

Gov. Justice announces opening of Cass Scenic Railroad's Trout Run Bridge

The rail line between Cass and Durbin in Pocahontas County is finally open following almost four years of cooperative work between the West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH), Durbin and Greenbrier Valley Railroad (DGVR), and the State Rail Authority, which is now part of the West Virginia Division of Transportation’s Division of Multimodal Transportation Facilities.

Work crews from WVDOH Central Forces took the lead in building a new bridge over Trout Run, allowing the rail line between Cass and Durbin to reopen. Central Forces worked closely with the railroad on the project.

First Lady Justice invites students to participate in Golden Horseshoe Knighting Bench Contest

First Lady Cathy Justice and the West Virginia Department of Education are inviting West Virginia students to participate in a Knighting Bench Design Contest. All 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade students who are public, private, or homeschooled are urged to participate in this Student Artist Series.

Gov. Justice hosts West Virginia University, WVU Tech, several student organizations at State Capitol

Gov. Justice earlier this week hosted Dr. Gordon Gee, the president of West Virginia University, and Dr. T. Ramon Stuart, the president of WVU Tech. The visit was a chance for the Governor to meet with the leaders of two of the state's premier institutions and discuss their plans for the future.

The Governor also had the opportunity to meet with several student organizations, such as the Lincoln County 4-H and Skill USA West Virginia. This provided a chance for him to learn more about the students' initiatives.

Gov. Justice hosts Huntington High School football team following state championship

Gov. Justice earlier this week met with the Huntington Highlanders football program to celebrate the team's remarkable achievement in winning the West Virginia Class AAA high school football state championship in December. The Highlanders defeated Parkersburg South to claim the title, and Gov. Justice was eager to congratulate the team on their hard-earned victory.

Gov. Justice earlier this week visited the West Virginia Association of Counties to discuss important issues affecting the state and its counties. The Governor's visit provided a unique opportunity for county officials to meet with him and discuss their concerns and priorities.

Professional Firefighters of West Virginia visit Gov. Justice and Babydog

Gov. Justice recently met with several members of the Professional Firefighters of West Virginia to express his gratitude for their tireless efforts in protecting communities across the state. During the meeting, he took the time to listen to the firefighters' concerns and commend them for their bravery and dedication to serving the people of West Virginia.

First Lady Justice introduces newest Friends With Paws therapy dog at Hinton Area Elementary School

First Lady Cathy Justice today visited Hinton Area Elementary School for an assembly to celebrate the arrival of the state’s next therapy dog through the Friends With Paws Communities In Schools (CIS) program. The dog introduced at today’s event is named Marshal. He is a Cream Labradoodle.
