Dear Friends, 

When I brought my five-month-old son Hodge to the House floor during the vote for the Speaker of the House last month, I wanted to show him off to my colleagues because I'm proud of him. But I wasn't expecting the kind of response that we've received. To millions of Americans, we brought visibility to the role of working dads across the country.

The outsized media coverage we received also highlights the double standard that still exists in our country. When fathers bring their kids to work, we're praised, but when mothers do, their commitment to their job is questioned. Men don't risk our lives bringing children into the world, women do. That's why I decided to launch the first-ever Congressional Dads Caucus. It sends a powerful message that dads need to do our part at home, raising our kids, and in Congress, advocating for family-friendly policies.

This 23-member—and growing!—organization includes my friend and colleague Rashida Tlaib, who is the founder of the Mama's Caucus.

Together, we're fighting to advance policies like a national paid family and medical leave program, affordable and high-quality child care, and the enhanced Child Tax Credit that will make a real difference in the lives of working parents.

And we will work to break down stereotypes when it comes to the roles and  responsibilities of fathers and the notion that mothers are the "default parent."

This is the blueprint for how we build a brighter, more equitable future for the next generation. I'm excited for what's to come!
