Good afternoon and happy Friday! It was another busy week in Washington with multiple committee hearings, the State of the Union Address, and more.
On Monday, we started off the day with a briefing on the Chinese spy balloon and a meeting with the Oversight Committee.
On Tuesday, we had two committee hearings at the same time which kept our office on its toes. In the House Armed Services Committee we discussed the pressing threat of the Chinese Communist Party to U.S. national defense. Multiple witnesses testified on the issue and the committee was able to learn more about this situation.
The other committee hearing was in the Oversight Committee and focused on the crisis at our southern border. U.S. Border Patrol Agents made over 2.2 million encounters of illegal border crossers along the southern border in Fiscal Year 2022. These staggering figures are evidence of failings in the administration’s ability to secure our nation's border. View more of the hearing here.
Wednesday morning we had another Oversight Committee hearing about protecting speech from government interference and social media bias. We put twitter in the hot seat for their censorship of information. Watch more of the hearing here. We also had an additional hearing in the House Armed Services Committee on the state of the defense industrial base. Both of these hearings were a great chance to hear from experts and learn more about issues facing our nation.
As always the week included tons of votes and our office also introduced an important resolution protecting every woman’s right to travel out of state. Read the full resolution here.
This week we are back in the Lowcountry and look forward to connecting with you! Join us on Tuesday morning for Coffee With Your Congresswoman on James Island. Get the details and RSVP here.
As an update, our Charleston office is changing locations. We will no longer be in West Ashley, but we are moving to 652 Coleman Blvd. in Mt. Pleasant.
As always, our office is here to lend a hand whenever we can. As we start this new year, please reach out to our office if you have any questions, concerns, or just want to be heard on any issue at any time. We’re here to help.
It’s an immense honor to serve each and every one of you.
Sincerely,
|
