Good evening, friends, advocates and voters. We hope this edition of the New Pennsylvania Project eBlast finds you well.
Congratulations to the three newly elected state representatives in Allegheny County. Matt Gergely (HD35), Abigail Salisbury (HD34), and Joe McAndrew (HD32) will all be sworn in by the end of the month ensuring the State House is becoming even more reflective of Pennsylvania’s electorate.
Despite this huge victory for our Commonwealth, our work continues. As a voting rights organization, we must protect our freedom to vote and push back against any policies that make it harder for constituents to cast their ballots. With a Democratic majority in the State House, we hope to see progressive policies such as; expanding voting rights, raising the minimum wage, fair funding for education and affordable housing as priorities for all the people of Pennsylvania.

#Team NPP got out the vote in Allegheny’s State House District 35 special election We had nine staff members knocking on doors and canvassing neighborhoods over a twelve day period, leading up to the election. Our team on the ground knocked on 7,000 doors. In addition to canvasing, NPP staff on the other side of the state made more than 2,600 phone calls in two days into McKeesport, White Oak and Munhall homes to remind voters to make their voices heard at the polls.

From Katy, Director of Development and Policy:
"On Election Day, I spoke with a voter who was not aware that she currently lived in a district without representation. When I explained to her that her vote would not only decide who represents her but also control of the state house, she was extremely excited to make sure a trip to her polling place was in her plans!" |
Thank you for taking the time to stay informed. We'll be back in two weeks with the latest edition. In solidarity, and GO BIRDS! Team NPP |
