John,
Black History Month is not only a time to commemorate and celebrate the achievements of Black Americans, but also a call to action. Decades after the successes of the civil rights movement, the fight for justice and equality continues.
Recent events like the loss of Tyre Nichols and countless others remind us that violence against Black Americans is still present to this day. At the same time, Black people are physically being abused, and states like Ohio are banning the teaching of Black history in schools, depriving our children of the education needed to learn from our past. With recent acts of intensifying violence and repression toward Black Americans, Black History Month has never been more important.
We must continue the legacy of figures like Dr. King, Malcolm X, and Rosa Parks in the pursuit of justice and equality. We cannot allow our voices to be silenced and our history to be erased.
I hope you’ll join me in the fight against violence and discrimination. Let's get to work ensuring that our future is one of justice and equality for all.
Keep moving forward,
Rep. Shontel Brown
