Howdy Texan,

I wanted to take this opportunity to update you on what’s happening in the U.S. House and Texas’ 31st district.

ON THE DOCKET:

  • The Biden Administration Needs to Support Law Enforcement
  • Biden’s State of the Union Address
  • Preparing for a Successful Appropriations Season

THE BRIEF:

Congressman Carter and Sheriff Boyd headed to State of the Union.

THE ADMINISTRATION NEEDS TO SUPPORT LAW ENFORCEMENT

This week, Burnet County Sheriff Calvin Boyd joined me in Washington, D.C., to attend President Biden’s State of the Union address. Sheriff Boyd has a decades long law enforcement career, and he knows better than anyone that the rhetoric and policies coming from Washington can significantly impact our police officers. Law enforcement officers like Sheriff Boyd are putting their lives on the line daily to keep our communities safe, all while Washington Democrats demonize and defund them. Since President Biden took office, we’ve seen a sharp increase in homicides, illicit fentanyl killing America’s young people, and a rise in police officers killed by gunfire. As a former judge, I believe we need to support our brave police officers and make sure they have the resources they need to serve and protect America’s streets.

STATE OF THE UNION

On Tuesday, President Biden gave his State of the Union address, taking a victory lap despite over 40% of Americans admitting that they’re worse off under his leadership. He attempted to paint a picture of a thriving nation, but if he asked average Americans, he’d know that his leadership has left their families behind.

Americans deserve an economy that is strong, communities that are safe, a future that is built on freedom and a government that is accountable to them. House Republicans have a concrete plan to accomplish those goals, but President Biden has to be willing to work with us.

Republicans’ Commitment to America is a promise to our constituents to stop the nonsense coming from Washington Democrats and get back to the basics that make our country great. House Republicans are the last line of defense, and we will be the brick wall between socialist bureaucratic policies coming from this administration and your family.

PREPARING FOR A SUCCESSFUL APPROPRATIONS SEASON

I met with members of the House Appropriations Military Construction and Veteran Affairs Subcommittee to discuss this year’s priorities. As Chairman, my top priority is ensuring our service members and veterans have the resources necessary to thrive, while reducing wasteful spending and holding agencies accountable.

As always, thank you for taking the time to stay updated on what's happening in Texas' 31st congressional district. Follow my Facebook and Twitter accounts for more updates.

It is an honor and privilege to represent you and Texas in the United States House.

Sincerely,
John R. Carter
