Team,
Late last year, I was proud to support the Inflation Reduction Act. With this new law, we've capped the cost of insulin at $35 a month for seniors on Medicare.
Still, Americans pay the highest prices for prescription drugs in the world. And every day, I hear too many stories about people rationing their insulin, discontinuing prescription drugs, or going into debt because of the outrageous costs of life-saving medication.
Look, lowering prescription drug prices won't just help seniors; it also cuts the federal deficit by BILLIONS. In his State of the Union, President Biden made it clear that he will veto any attempts to raise drug prices.
The cost of insulin has created an affordability crisis for the 8.6% of Washingtonians living with diabetes. Meanwhile, the average price for a unit of insulin is $98.70, which is about ten times higher compared to other developed nations.
This is unacceptable, and the time to act is NOW. Let's finish the job and pass a national $35 insulin cap for all Americans, and bring down the costs of prescription drugs across the board.
The Inflation Reduction Act was a significant step forward in cutting costs and saving lives. But our work is not yet over. If you agree that it's time to cap insulin at $35 and lower the cost of prescription drugs, sign our petition to urge Congress to act by adding your name next to mine. >> [link removed]
