We hope you’ve had a great week, it was a busy one in Washington! From votes, meetings with community stakeholders, and committee hearings, Congressman Kim worked to advance healthcare savings for seniors, elevate Americans’ voice on the House Armed Services Committee, and attended this year’s State of the Union address.

On Tuesday, we recognized National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day and the continued disproportionate impact of HIV on Black communities. During Black History Month, we are thinking about how we can change the course of history and further bring awareness and change to deliver more testing, prevention, and treatment to those who need it.

Meet Marta, a Southampton Senior and our Very Special State of the Union Guest!

On Tuesday, Congressman Kim welcomed Marta Nelson from Southampton to Washington as his guest to President Biden’s State of the Union Address later that evening. Marta and her husband are saving over $1,000 this year alone thanks to the $35/month cap on insulin Congressman Kim helped secure in the Inflation Reduction Act. In addition, they’ll be saving more in the next two years when Congressman Kim’s $2,000/year cap on prescription drug costs for Seniors on Medicare goes into effect.

Congressman Kim and our team were excited to show Marta around the Capitol and hear her story. We are grateful for her time and help elevating the reality of too many seniors in our community who have to continue to work to afford healthcare costs.

We are proud Congressman Kim’s $2,000 cap and the $35/month insulin cap were included in President Biden’s State of the Union as historic steps and successes in expanding our seniors’ access to affordable healthcare. Our work continues to build off of these savings so more Americans can have worry-free access to the medications and care they need.

Congressman Kim Appointed Ranking Member on the Military Personnel Subcommittee

Congressman Kim will continue his work on behalf of our servicemembers and their families as Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee’s Military Personnel Subcommittee. We are committed to serving our servicemembers at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst and their families. From meeting local needs to delivering for men and women in uniform across the country, Congressman Kim holds this commitment close to heart in his committee work.

Congressman Kim’s Committee Assignments Finalized for 118th Congress

Congressman Kim was recently appointed to the House Select Committee on Strategic Competition between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party. This Congress, he will also return to the House Armed Services Committee and the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

At a House Armed Services Committee hearing this week, Congressman Kim emphasized the need for Congress to better prioritize and uplift the voice of the American people when discussing our nation’s most pressing challenges abroad, including our strategic competition with the Chinese Communist Party. End of Gun Violence Survivors Week, but Not of Our Work for Gun Reform

This Tuesday marked the end of National Gun Violence Survivors Week. With glaring statistics like firearms becoming the leading cause of death among children and heartbreaking stories from survivors, we know the dire realities of the gun violence epidemic and continue our work to end the needless gun violence.
