Share your priorities for Congress in 2023!

My job as your Representative is to listen to the needs and concerns that are on your mind, and to take them to Washington to better advocate on behalf of Sacramento County families. 

In 2022, my office received over 50,000 emails, letters, and phone calls about the issues that matter most to the people of Sacramento County. Every single one of those messages informs the decisions I make in the House of Representatives every single day.

Each year, Members of Congress are permitted to bring one guest to the State of the Union Address. This year, I was thrilled to welcome Mervin Brookins, a former inmate and founder of Brother 2 Brother Mentoring based in Del Paso Heights.

Merv’s life story is one of perseverance, redemption, and hope. After making a series of poor decisions in his youth which lead serving 21 years in prison, Merv has committed his life to being a positive influence and role model for young people in Sacramento County.

Through his Brother 2 Brother Mentoring program, Merv has brought together our community to stop violence and build stronger bonds between police and the communities they serve.

Merv’s journey is a testament to making the most of second chances, and I was proud to have him by my side for the President’s State of the Union address.

Rep. Bera chosen for the House Intelligence Committee

I'm honored to be selected to serve on the Intelligence Committee for the 118th Congress.

I am honored to be appointed to serve on the House Intelligence Committee, which plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and national security of the United States. 

At a time of increased threats, both at home and abroad, I take seriously this new role and the responsibility entrusted to me to protect and defend American families. With my decade of experience working on critical national security issues, I look forward to working with Committee members from both sides of the aisle to ensure our intelligence agencies are operating effectively to keep our nation safe.

I'm also thrilled to continue serving on the House Foreign Affairs Committee as Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on the Indo-Pacific. I am committed to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to address the many challenges in the region, including standing up to China's aggressive and coercive actions.

Americans are facing challenges every day. From rising costs to tax concerns, it can be tough to know who to turn to for help.

That's why my staff will continue to be available in locations throughout Sacramento County to help people who are having trouble with federal government agencies including backlogged Veterans benefits, IRS refunds, or issues with Social Security and Medicare.
