John,
We are excited to share that our legislation, the Protect and Advance Democracy Act, bringing Ranked Choice Voting statewide is in the revisor’s office, and we can’t wait for it to be introduced soon! It has taken a little longer than expected because we have been engaging local election officials and the Office of Secretary of State to ensure we have a bill that works for everyone.
The Protect and Advance Democracy Act, authored by Senator Kelly Morrison and Rep. Cedrick Frazier, implements RCV for state and federal primary and general elections and provides the option for all local jurisdictions to adopt RCV if they wish. It gives local jurisdictions the immediate option to adopt RCV and provides the strategic on-ramping of statewide RCV in 2026, ensuring a process and timeline to engage election officials and other stakeholders in establishing the necessary standards, procedures, and technology upgrades to effectively and securely implement RCV.
It’s a great bill! And there’s no better time than right now to call [[link removed]] or email your legislators [[link removed]] to let them know you are eager for this bill to pass this year so we can protect and advance democracy in our state. See our website [[link removed]] for more information about the legislation, including FAQs, and stay tuned for next steps. We’ll let you know when the bill is submitted––as soon as it comes out of the revisor’s office––and then we’ll have committee hearings and a rally day at the Capitol within the coming weeks!
