John,
The Washington Post recently shed light on Speaker McCarthy's agreement with the most extremist members of the MAGA Republican caucus.
Their plan is to subvert the debt limit, refuse to raise the debt ceiling and create a misleading proposal to prioritize certain payments which would deceive the public into thinking Republicans are compromising.
Already, the initial stage of the MAGA Republicans scheme is in play because the Treasury Department had to implement drastic measures when the U.S. reached the debt limit last month.
We must stand strong against their plan and reject any cuts to vital programs such as Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid as MAGA Republicans drag the US towards default.
Tell President Biden to send a resounding message, declaring that he will not cave to Republican demands. He must pledge to veto any bill that is not a pure and simple debt ceiling increase.
For too long, Republicans have wielded the debt ceiling as a weapon, using it to intimidate Democrats and threaten the stability of programs like Social Security and Medicare.
Over a decade ago, in 2011 and 2013, when Republicans pushed our nation toward a similar debt ceiling crisis, the Treasury Department debunked their prioritization plan, stating it is technically not possible due to the sheer volume of payments made by the federal government each day.
This means, the supposed plan put forward by House Republicans is just an illusion of compromise. In reality, it is a threat to the financial stability of the country and the livelihoods of millions of Americans.
Fortunately, President Biden doesn't have to surrender to Republican tactics of holding the economy hostage. He can stand firm and demand a clean debt ceiling increase without any other policy measures attached to it.
Join us in urging President Biden to protect the credibility of the United States by refusing to negotiate on the debt ceiling.
Together, we can make a difference and guarantee that the debt ceiling is raised without compromising essential programs like Social Security and Medicare.
