Domestic abusers in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas can now purchase and own guns. This is terrifying, John xxxxxx.

Data shows: women are five times more likely to be killed by an abusive partner when that partner has access to a gun. This ruling is a death sentence for women.

Last year, women legislators successfully spearheaded efforts to close a loophole that allowed people convicted of domestic abuse to own a gun – but there’s a lot more work to do. We need more women, especially women who believe in commonsense gun laws, in office. Please contribute $25 to help us support the campaigns of women who will fight the gun violence epidemic in America immediately →

Hi there,

The 5th Circuit Court just struck down the federal domestic violence restraining order gun prohibition. That means people under domestic violence restraining orders will now be able to buy guns in three states.

Domestic abusers in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas can now purchase and own guns.

As Shannon Watts, the founder of Moms Demand Action, has pointed out: “Given that domestic violence is often a precursor to gun violence, this ruling is a death sentence for women and families in the US.”

This ruling will disproportionately affect women. According to Everytown, access to a gun makes it 5x more likely that an abusive partner will kill his female victim, and over 4.5 million women have reported being threatened with a gun by an intimate partner.

It's worth noting that there are seated representatives who have been paying attention to this matter – especially the women in office. For example, Senator Amy Klobuchar and Representative Debbie Dingell successfully spearheaded efforts to close the “Boyfriend Loophole” last year.

When women are in the rooms where decisions are being made, they can defend and protect the best interests of women in our country — and evidence shows that’s exactly what they do.

This ruling was a direct consequence of a recent majority GOP, majority male SCOTUS decision to further loosen gun control laws in our country. We are sick and tired of men making reckless decisions that endanger OUR safety.

We are more determined than ever to elect more gun safety female candidates to office, but we cannot do it alone. Will you chip in $25 or more today to help us support the campaigns of women who will fight to protect women and children in America?
