Hi friend, I’m Kelvin with United We Dream Action.
Growing up in Los Angeles, my dad worked as a mechanic and my mom worked at a psychiatric hospital and would take multiple buses early in the morning to get to work.
My parents worked hard so my younger siblings and I could have better opportunities.
I graduated from Georgetown last year, and am now working my dream job in tech in New York City — and it was only possible because of the opportunities my parents were able to give me.
But my DACA status makes it all feel fleeting, knowing at any moment, one court decision could throw it all into disarray.
Even though I have DACA, my younger brother was too young to apply before first-time applications were cruelly stopped by an anti-immigrant judge — in a decision that was held up by the Fifth Circuit Court last year.
I’ve seen his opportunities diminish or be completely taken away simply because of his immigration status.
As a member of the group of DACA recipients who met with White House officials last fall, I made clear to one of President Biden’s Senior Advisers: enough was enough — this back and forth and lack of opportunities for me, my brothers, and others like us has gone on for too long.
While my experiences living while undocumented are unique, I’m fighting for the same thing as every other DACA recipient and undocumented person.
Now, I’m calling on this team of grassroots allies to step up and join us as we keep pushing members of Congress and President Biden to deliver a comprehensive, expansive pathway to citizenship for people like me and my brothers.
