Here's what we know: In order to win the necessary votes from far-right extremists to become Speaker of the House, Kevin McCarthy likely agreed to Social Security and Medicare cuts. Republicans have been attempting to gut Social Security and Medicare for years, and now they're holding our entire economy hostage in an attempt to cut these crucial programs our families rely on.

Republicans are only interested in one thing — protecting the interests of billionaires who line their pockets. Now, they're trying to distract voters with right-wing propaganda while they make backroom deals with their wealthy donors to cut Social Security and Medicare.
Both Social Security and Medicare are extremely popular — with near universal support according to the AARP — but these cuts would mean harder-to-reach health care and real harm for retirees. Instead of cutting the programs Americans rely on, we should be expanding them — and ensuring everyone has access to Medicare and a dignified retirement.
