The nationwide impact and how we're showing up to fight back.

ACLU Supporter –

You may already know about a major case being litigated before a Trump-appointed Texas judge that could in the very near future impact medication abortion access nationwide. We at the ACLU want to make sure you have the facts before a ruling comes down. Here are a few key things to know – discussed in-depth on our latest episode of At Liberty: <[link removed]>

* Since the repeal of Roe v. Wade in June of 2022, the fight for reproductive freedom has increasingly centered on medication abortion – a two-pill regimen allowing pregnant people to safely terminate pregnancies with medicine alone.

* Since the FDA approved one of the medications used – mifepristone – in 2000, the method has grown to now account for more than half of abortions performed nationwide.

* For that reason, anti-abortion advocates view it as a threat and are looking to take mifepristone off of the shelves across the United States. That's the goal behind a new lawsuit filed in November of 2022.

* If the suit is successful, it would eradicate medication abortion with mifepristone nationwide – the most common abortion method in this country and the primary method by which medication abortion has been safely practiced here for more than two decades.

Given this nationwide impact, ACLU Supporter, I got my colleague Andy Beck, senior staff attorney at the ACLU's Reproductive Freedom Project, to talk with me about this dangerous lawsuit, the importance of mifepristone for reproductive health care, and how the ACLU is showing up to preserve that care nationwide.

Our conversation is up on our podcast now. Check it out today as the filing of this case unfolds and stay tuned for more. <[link removed]>
