State of the Union reaction: See what hard-working Americans thought of
President Biden's address

Residents of North Carolina plus other states reacted to president's
address

FOX News| Brittany Kasko

February 8, 2023

President Biden delivered his 2023 State of the Union address on Feb. 7,
2023, on Capitol Hill.

The annual address included mention of gun violence, health care, the state
of the economy, and more.

Many Americans watched the address and had strong thoughts about it
afterward.

"Idiotic," one father and grandfather in Iowa said bluntly in remarks about
the speech to FOX News Digital. "Biden is not leading us - he's misleading
us down a very slippery slope, morally, economically, and geopolitically."

Sarah Huckabee Sanders: "Time for new generation of Republican leadership"

Axios| Sareen Habeshian

February 7, 2023

Gov. Sarah Hukabee Sanders (R-Ark.) delivered the Republican response to
President Biden's State of the Union on Tuesday night, ridiculing the
president's policies and leadership.

The big picture: Sanders, who served as the White House press secretary for
two years during former President Trump's administration, aimed to draw a
sharp generational contrast between Biden and the "new generation of
Republican leadership." [2]Read more

North Carolina Republicans reap reward of judicial wins in redistricting
ruling

February 7, 2023

Democrats and Republicans poured millions of dollars into state Supreme
Court races in North Carolina and Ohio last fall, eyeing the seats as a
crucial tool in advancing political power on issues such as redistricting,
abortion, and voting laws.

On Friday, Republicans reaped the first major reward, when the newly
elected conservative majority on North Carolina's top court agreed to
revisit an earlier decision invalidating a Republican-backed redistricting
map. [3]Read more

New York Republicans hope to build on 2022 election results

Spectrum News 1| Nick Reisman

February 6, 2023

In November, Republican former Rep. Lee Zeldin became the closest GOP
candidate for governor to wrest control back in the governor's office in 20
years.

On Monday, he did not rule out another run - or a campaign for Suffolk
County executive to a bid for the U.S. Senate seat held by Democratic
incumbent Kirsten Gillibrand for that matter.

"I do believe at some point there will be a re-entry to government," Zeldin
said. "Exactly what that will be and when - we'll see."

Republicans came up short once again in last year's statewide elections.
But they hope the results in otherwise Democratic-heavy New York in 2022
can be built on. [4]Read more

WG Discussion Points: How Candidate Quality Mattered in 2022 Senate Races

WG Discussion Points | David Winston

February 3, 2023

As Republicans start another primary season, they would be wise to consider
lessons learned from past elections where there were major missed
opportunities. There is no more clear example of this than in 2022 Senate
races. Based on vote totals from three competitive Senate races - Arizona,
Georgia, and Nevada, - we compared the totals for Republican Senate and
House races to see how much the vote differences would have made. [5]WG
