Team,
Black History Month gives us the opportunity to celebrate the many contributions, achievements, and rich history of Black Americans. I am proud to represent California’s 38th district – home to a strong community of Black leaders and trailblazers.
As we celebrate Black history, we are also reminded of the work still ahead of us in the fight for equity.
This month, I am thinking about Tyre Nichols, his family, and every Black man or woman killed or targeted by police in this country. It is clear our fight is far from over.
We must pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act to prevent these tragedies from happening and demand accountability in law enforcement.
As state legislatures across the country enact discriminatory policies to disenfranchise Black Americans and other communities of color, we must also take swift action to protect access to the ballot and demand equitable access to healthcare and housing.
I am committed to making progress on these and other issues to build a more equitable future for all.
Sincerely,
Linda
