The 2023 legislative session is well underway and – given the increase in crime rates – the terrible “police pursuit” bill has garnered a lot of attention. Our readers will remember that Democrats effectively handcuffed police officers in 2021, when liberals passed party-line legislation that prevented the police from pursuing criminals running away from the scene of a crime.

For good reason, rational (and usually Republican) lawmakers have been working tirelessly to repeal the failed bill.

But that’s not the only effort Republicans are making to fix the problems created by Democrats in the past. Unfortunately, Democrats appear determined to continue the pattern they’ve created over the years – ignore good ideas and push more of their failed policies.

Other than repealing the “police pursuit” bill, here are four more bills that Republicans are pushing (and Democrats are killing):

1. Repealing the long-term payroll tax – Democrats’ new tax failed before it even could be implemented, and was delayed past the last election, but it still adds a heavier financial burden on Washington’s working families while costing the state more money to enforce.

2. Reforming the executive’s emergency powers – Jay Inslee abused our state’s emergency power laws for years, imposing his one-man rule without any checks for 975 days. Lawmakers must ensure such a dictatorship that never happens again in our state.

3 & 4. Lowering property taxes and cutting the sales taxes – At a time when working families across the state are struggling to make ends meet, our state’s always-increasing property and sales taxes add to financial burdens. It’s time lawmakers cut out-of-control, frivolous spending and return taxpayer money back to struggling families, instead of giving it to Democrat special-interest donors.

Democrats have no plans to allow these bills to be heard in committee for a simple reason – they are afraid of them. Afraid that the public will show up to testify. Afraid that their failures will be held up to scrutiny.

These rational bills do not align with the Left’s agenda. But Democrats know these bills are popular with the people – so their plan is to kill them before they see the light of day. And count on the media to cover their backs.
