Implications Of Medicare Advantage Growth
In a Datawatch article published in Health Affairs, Erin Trish and colleagues examine steady growth in Medicare Advantage (MA) and its implications for reform.

The authors report that MA enrollment increased by 337.0 percent from 2006 through 2022. In that same period, traditional Medicare enrollment declined by 2.9 percent.

They suggest that if these trends continue, MA enrollment will soon overtake traditional Medicare enrollment, which could have significant implications for reform.

"These trends may raise concerns about the stability and accuracy of MA benchmarks, the target against which MA plans bid," assert Trish and colleagues.

"Because these benchmarks are set according to spending among traditional Medicare beneficiaries in the county, using spending data from residual traditional Medicare enrollees may become an increasing concern as MA penetration rises."

Elsewhere At Health Affairs
Today in Forefront, Angela Shen and coauthors write that the incoming generation of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccines and related interventions will look very different from historical vaccine breakthroughs.

Health Affairs Scholar Editor-in-Chief Kathryn Phillips announces that the new companion journal to Health Affairs is now accepting submissions.
