John,
After President Biden boxed Republicans into showing their support for our Social Security system at the State of the Union, they have been on damage control. Medicare fraudster-turned-Senator1 Rick Scott has been on a media blitz denying the plain truth about his plan, which even Mitch McConnell said would “sunset Social Security and Medicare.”2
But after their high-profile show of unity, Republicans are still attacking our earned benefits. Just this morning, Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson attacked Social Security as a “Ponzi scheme.”3 Senator Johnson has gone further than Senator Scott — his plan would let Social Security and Medicare expire at the end of every year.
We’ve still got our work cut out for us. Can you rush a $7 donation today to help save Social Security and Medicare from Republicans?
Through our organizing, 218 members of Congress have taken the pledge NEVER to cut Social Security or Medicare. But we’ve still got a long way to go.
That’s why Social Security Works has been pushing not just to keep Social Security and Medicare out of debt ceiling discussions, but to demand an end to debt ceiling hostage-taking altogether. Even if we exclude Social Security and Medicare this time, if hostage-taking is normalized, it will only be a matter of time before Republicans set their sights back on our earned benefits.
The only way to save Social Security from its Republican enemies is to keep pressuring every politician in Washington DC to take the No Cuts pledge and raise the debt ceiling without hostage-taking. Donate to Social Security Works today to save Social Security and Medicare from Republicans!
Thanks,
Michael Phelan
