NASN's new educational activity, Immunization 101: A primer on school-recommended vaccinations, provides school nurses with a primer or refresher on school-required child/adolescent vaccinations. 

Participants will be able to:

• Define herd immunity
• Understand the child/adolescent vaccination schedule
• Identify the required immunizations for students to attend school
• Verbalize the components of a legal immunization record
• Understand where to locate the state immunization registry and know how to access a student’s immunization record.

Upon completion, participants will receive 1.0 NCPD contact hours, and there is no cost for NASN members. Learn more.

Telehealth can expand and enhance access to school-based health care, but its use has been relatively limited. Previous studies have demonstrated that it can be an effective alternative strategy. However, almost all research has focused on a single telehealth service. The JOSN article, Overview of School-Based Telehealth Network Grant Program Services Delivered to Students in Rural Schools, adds to the research by elucidating that telehealth in schools can address multiple clinical conditions through individual services.

The new NASN Learning Center course, ME/CFS and Long-COVID: The School Nurse Role in Identifying Children with Chronic Illness, explores the role of the school nurse in identifying children with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) and Long COVID (Post-COVID Conditions [PCC]). School nurses play a critical role in identifying the symptoms, referral for further medical evaluation, and the health and academic impacts experienced by students. • School nurses participating in NASN’s School-based Active Surveillance for Chronic Absenteeism (SBAS) are currently involved in identifying and referring children with symptoms of ME/CFS for further medical evaluation.

Children's Oral Health E-Learning Platform developed interactive gaming tools designed to teach school-aged children about the basics of oral health. The information provided by oral health professionals is concise, clear, and easy to understand for the targeted grade levels. There are two pieces of training available Pre-K through 5th grade and 6th through 8th grade. The game is for individual student use, not in a classroom-wide educational setting. Learn more.

SchoolSafety.gov recently launched a new Child Exploitation topic page featuring child exploitation information, resources, and guidance from government agencies and nonprofit organizations, outlining ways K-12 school communities can help identify, prevent, and respond to the victimization of students.
