The America's Great Depression Contest
Deadline is Tomorrow, Friday, February 10.

2023 marks the 60th anniversary of the publication of America’s Great Depression by Murray N. Rothbard. The book was published by D. Van Nostrand Company, Inc., a small publisher of scientific and engineering books located in Princeton, New Jersey.

The book was not widely reviewed in academic journals or leading magazines or newspapers when it first appeared. And yet it went on to have a great influence on contemporary policy debates stimulated by the turbulent monetary and financial events of the twenty-first century. The book still stands today as the model and standard of how sound economic theory should be applied to explaining the causes of historical or contemporary economic events.

In celebration of the anniversary of this outstanding work, the Mises Institute is sponsoring a student essay contest on America’s Great Depression: Lessons for Today. The contest is open to graduate and undergraduate students. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes of $2,500, $1,000 and $500, respectively, will be awarded, and the prize winners will be invited to present their papers at the Austrian Economics Research Conference at the Mises Institute campus in Auburn, March 16–18, 2023. Prize winners will also have their accommodations paid for and conference registration fee waived.

Essays should be 1,500–2,000 words and written with the aim of informing and persuading readers of the contemporary relevance of Rothbard’s book.

Submission deadline is tomorrow, Friday, February 10.
