Dwight Evans for Congress

John,

When Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. uttered those prolific words almost 57 years ago, I don't think he could have predicted just how far we've come -- and how much work there is still left to do.

We are still fighting to fulfill the promise of equality, and in a time where the very foundation of our democracy is being tested, we have to fight that much harder to fulfill the promises that Dr. King was talking about.

But I have hope, John. Time and time again, everyday people have decided enough is enough and come together to speak out against injustice -- from the March on Washington in 1963 to the Women's March in 2017. From public buses to lunch counters to the halls of Congress, there is absolutely nothing that can put a stop to the fire and fury of grassroots activists who stand up and demand better.

Today is a day to reflect. Millions observe Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day by meditating on where we have been and where we need to go in our relentless pursuit of racial and economic justice. It's also a time to celebrate the work of Dr. King and countless leaders and activists who have demonstrated the courage and willpower needed to make real, lasting change in this country.

But today is also a day of action, John. So I invite you to find just one volunteer opportunity in your community to give back, make change, and follow in the footsteps of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

It continues to be an honor and a privilege to join you on the front lines in our battle for equality and justice for all.

In solidarity,

Dwight
