John, I'm proud that Delaware has no sales tax and keeps everyday essentials as affordable as possible. That’s why my jaw dropped when I saw House Republicans' proposed plan to raise Delaware’s sales tax to a whopping 30%! Talk about making policy that is just plain out of touch!

In order to become House Speaker, Kevin McCarthy made a deal with party extremists who want to create a nationwide 30% sales tax! That would mean paying an extra 30% to the federal government on everything from groceries to rent to gas.

I’ve worked my entire career to keep prices low for Delaware families. In fact, when I became Governor, I even replaced the Governor's name on our state's welcome signs with the slogan "Home of Tax-Free Shopping." When people came to Delaware, I didn't care if they knew that I was the governor. But I did want them to know that this is the best state for them to spend their hard-earned dollars – so they would buy from small businesses, purchase goods from local artisans, and support our economy.

Today, Delaware families and all of our visitors still pay 0% sales tax – and trust me, we want to keep it that way. But the GOP (the supposed party of "small government") wants to force families here to start paying 30% on every. single. purchase.

I know what you're thinking: Why in the world would the GOP try to push such an unpopular plan? Well, it's no secret. This is all part of Republicans' scheme to help their wealthiest donors avoid paying their fair share – while everyday families foot the bill. And after announcing this plan, you can bet that those donors will spend whatever it takes to win back the Senate so that Republicans have the votes to make a 30% sales tax the law of the land.

I refuse to let them get away with this, and because we hold the Senate majority, we can put a stop to it. But these megadonors have deep pockets and vast resources, so I'm counting on grassroots folks like you to have my back – like I always have yours. Please, before my next deadline at midnight tonight, will you make a donation – any amount helps – so that we can defeat the GOP's megadonors, protect working families, and defend our Senate majority?

Thank you for having my back on this.

Tom
