We've got good news and bad news,
John.
The bad news is that the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) released its
final environmental impact statement for ConocoPhillips' proposed oil
drilling project in Alaska, also known as the Willow project proposal.
In it, they say their "preferred" plan would allow ConocoPhillips to open
three new drill sites, with a potential fourth later on — locking in 287
million metric tons of pollution over the next 30 years.
Not only would the Willow project result in the burning of another 590
million barrels of oil – as if that's not enough – but it would also
drastically impact Indigenous communities' from increased pollution,
wildlife degradation, the risk of violence, as well as pave the way for
more drilling in the area.^1
The good news is that the Biden Administration now has until February 28
to issue its final decision on whether to permit the project. It doesn't
have to happen!
We still have time to make our voices heard. Any letters or public
comments that get submitted before the end of this month still have to go
on the public record.
We believe that with enough public pressure, we can show the Biden
Administration that they must reject ConocoPhillips' Willow project
proposal. [ [link removed] ]Can you send a message to the White House and the Bureau of
Land Management now asking them to reject this disastrous project and
protect our climate?

We first wrote to you about this project one year ago and
together our movement
sent in over 11,000 public comments against the project.
If built, this project would allow the construction of up to 250 drilling
wells, not to mention pipelines, roads, and a processing facility, in an
area just 36 miles from the mostly-Indigenous village of Nuiqsut in
Alaska.
We can't let this project move forward. [ [link removed] ]Can you help us build public
pressure on the Biden Administration and submit a comment to the White
House and the Bureau of Land Management today?
We must make our voices heard to support communities on the frontlines of
this fight and demand that the Biden Administration end this project once
and for all.
Thank you for being by our side in this fight,
Team 350
